Disabled American Vietnam- Era
Veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam War From:
(November 1, 1955, to May 7, 1975)
I am an individual with disabilities, I have an 80% db loss in the high frequency and have always viewed life as being filled with opportunities and challenges. I have always tried to take all the opportunities presented to me, and even some that were not! Nevertheless, I try to see the positives in life and my co-workers. It is through the hearts of many who have helped me through the years, that I have maintained a positive attitude toward everyday life's challenges.
My primary challenge of deafness is invisible. I do have what's called an invisible handicap. Translated, that means it is unrecognizable to everyone, but me. I feel I must interject here: I dislike the words handicapped and disabled. The very connotations of the words bring forth the image of "can't do."Do you know where the word "handicapped" originated?
In the early years, people with impairment would take their caps in hand, and beg for money to survive.
I propose that every one of us needs to take a strong look at the "can do's" in the lives of those who have a limitation, it would certainly make life a lot more exciting. Too many people fall into the trap of the "can't do," and believe me, I know just how easy this is to do. I wish I had a nickel for every time someone told me I couldn't achieve something while I was growing up; I would have been a millionaire by age 21! If one looks at normal physical or mentally challenging events in one's life such as the fear of not doing a good job, or the fear of what your peers or colleagues think of you: these things are very stressful; [ This is true for all people.] However, with those individuals like myself with impairments, it's a double whammy! Both the physically and mentally challenged and the non-handicapped
.....(do you like that word-sounds bad doesn't it? Well, it's not).....
I must live with tremendous fears, and it is my feeling that only with the avenue of positive education and awareness, combined with the positive motivation of good business economics, will the fear and the misconceptions change. As you can see, I do not support separatist, militant, or radical advocacy avenues by which the handicapped person is treated.
We've all been put down and shut out. Rather, I support showing the need for the physically- and mentally- challenged. We are a positive, viable resource when employers are aware. The physically- and mentally- challenged have many unique talents, which we can use to give to others, proving that giving is indeed a two-way street.
Do you know what the biggest handicap in the world is?
The lack of knowledge and awareness about individuals with any type of impairment. Generally defined, it is a preconceived notion of what an individual can or cannot do.
As you can see, progress is not consistent in dealing with the handicapped. But that is why the handicapped are now being recognized as a last minority. I would like to offer a challenge to you today...
However, most of the limitations we think exist in our lives are self-imposed. They are perceived limits that don’t exist; at least not at the threshold we convince ourselves they do. Most limits in our lives are defined by our fear, lack of motivation, and past experiences.
your inner voice telling you “You can’t do it, you’re not good enough” — pause for a couple of seconds and ask yourself if the limit is universal (a fundamental limit that cannot be overcome) or a self-imposed limit. If it’s self-imposed (as most limits are) you get to ask yourself “Why have I adopted this as one of my limitations?” And, “Am I okay with letting this limitation have input in who I am and who I become in life? Am I okay with the impact this limit will continue to have on my life?”
If the answer is yes, that you’re okay with the limitation remaining in your life, then move forward and don’t look back. Don’t waste time complaining about how things turn out due to the limitations because you made the choice. However, if you’re not okay with the limitation, it’s time to push past that boundary to see what’s waiting on the other side.
On the other side of your limitations is where you meet a new expanded version of yourself. On the other side of your limitation is greater freedom.
here you are given two choices they are "can't do" and "can do" Are you one who is limited?
The only way to discover the limits of the CAN'T DO is to go beyond them into the CAN DO The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.

Greetings!
When we as Christians find ourselves in a heated debate with the client, sometimes the discussion becomes harsh. At that point, someone inevitably says, “Oh, it’s just iron sharpening iron. Sparks will fly when that happens.”
But is that really what Proverbs 27:17 says? “Just as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
The word “sharpens”, in this context, means to become intellectually sharp and alert. In other words, this is describing a quick, penetrating mind. “Iron” refers to harshness, strength, or oppression.
Too often we see this don’t we? Harshness sharpens harshness when disagreements arise among Christians. Some may think they are “sharpening” in a good way when they are grinding others down.
Sometimes, we mistake the forging process with the sharpening process. When a sword is forged, the metal goes through a rather violent process of being melted down and beaten until it becomes the weapon the creator desires. But sharpening is much more careful and less aggressive. It requires a less vigorous, more detailed touch. Sharpening cannot be done sloppily, because a poor job can ruin the blade’s edge.
God’s word is our sword See>> (Hebrews 4:12, Ephesians 6:17) and while scripture has a lot to say about preparing and training for battle, this is in the context of fighting the enemy, not each other in the body of Christ. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that
“We fight not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
True iron sharpening iron happens when we encourage each other to become stronger and smarter in spiritual matters and scripture. It is strength building up strength, keen spiritual minds encouraging other keen spiritual minds, even when there isn’t complete agreement. Let us strive to carefully sharpen each other, not harshly pound and forge in anger or oppression. As I learn to be a much better pastor.
I get to ask myself “Why have I adopted this as one of my limitations?” And “Am I okay with letting this limitation have input in who I am and who I become in life? Am I okay with the impact this limit will continue to have on my life?”
